Trend in Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Key Findings
- National GHG emissions are tiny on the global scale
- Most recent national GHG inventory published in 2015
- 61% of emissions can be attributed to energy sector (including electricity generation and transport)
- Insufficient data to determine trends
Response and Recommendation
- Implement Enetise Tutumau priority actions
- Prepare a third national GHG inventory to determine emissions trend
Trends in Ozone Depleting Substances Consumption
Key Findings
- A party to the Montreal Protocol
- chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs)
- Import of CFCs ceased in 2000
- Member of Montreal Protocol Pacific Island Countries Network • In process of phasing-out consumption of HCFCs
HCFC Phase Out Schedule for Tuvalu
Impact
By ceasing consumption of CFCs and being close to completely phasing-out consumption of HCFCs, Tuvalu is contributing to global efforts to protect the ozone layer, protecting the planet’s surface from harmful ultraviolet radiation emitted by the sun.
Recommendation
Continue efforts to completely phase-out national consumption of HCFCs and HFCs
